Faith in Action is at the core of why St. Columba exists as a parish community. It addresses the essence of our vision of "Doing God's work on earth" as it gives each of us actionable ways to love our neighbor as individuals and as community. Our logo presents the image of what Faith in Action embodies: a cross with all that it symbolizes; pain, sacrifice, suffering, forgiveness – emitting rays of mercy, grace, hope – emerging into a heart brimming with care and love.
St. Columba has numerous ministries that are all about giving and serving. Each of these ministries are involved in doing tremendous good and serve a particular purpose, but some people life commitments prevent them from being part of a formal ministry. Faith in Action gives everyone the opportunity to help others throughout the community without having to attend meetings. The ministry identifies members of our community who are in need and provides support to them through prayer and assistance. Put simply, we pray for one another and help one another. This truly embodies the concept of loving our neighbor.
Faith in Action has two parts:
In the first part of the process, people who are wish to join our virtual prayer circle can do so. Those in need of prayer (or on behalf of someone) can:
Submit a prayer request
Join the prayer circle
All parishioners are invited to join the prayer circle. Additionally, parishioners are invited to join in providing practical assistance to fellow parishioners in need, i.e. washing windows, shoveling snow, grocery shopping, providing transportation to a dr. appt., etc.
Both segments combine into an effort involving everyone. Those who are unable to perform physical tasks can pray. Those willing and able to perform practical tasks are invited to do both if they wish. A software program electronically facilitates a confidential parish wide data base that enables contact by linking those in need with pray-ers and/or practical assistance. Those not having e-mail can be contacted by telephone.
Prayer Resources: monthly prayers
We are a parish praying for its fellow members and helping those in need. We are a parish that is alive and active in the name of Jesus – a community doing God's work on earth. Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
