Rediscover Lent for You

Lent “is time of conversion, a time to be intentional about our faith life and our Christian walk.
Almsgiving keeps us attentive of our neighbor
Fasting helps us master ourselves
Prayer brings us closer to God.”

Sr. Lynn Marie, OSB, Clyde Monastery

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 22.

In preparation, St. Columba Parish is hosting a

St. Columba Launches Parish Read
featuring national bestseller:  “Rediscover Catholicism”

Our parish is embarking on a new and exciting journey.  Our journey invites each member of our parish to read a book entitled “Rediscovering Catholicism” by Matthew Kelly.

Join us for our first St. Columba Read and rediscover for yourself what Catholicism offers to you on your faith journey.  Rediscover the Mass, the sacrament of Reconciliation, and reading the Bible.  Rediscover some of our practices such as prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

Pick up the book during “Rediscover Lent for You” on February 18, Ash Wednesday, February 22, or come by the parish office.

Each year, our parish participates in Operation Rice Bowl.  Our parish families help other families in our own diocese and worldwide.  By praying with our families and faith communities; fasting in solidarity with those who hunger; learning more about the challenges of poverty overseas; and giving sacrificial contributions to support those in need, we can make a difference in our world.

75% of your donation helps CRS fund programs that bring “clean water, small enterprise development, agricultural expertise, educational opportunities, and HIV/AIDS and mother/child health programs to the poor in more than 40 countries. 25% of ORB donations support hunger and poverty alleviation efforts in dioceses within the United States.

Take an Operation Rice Bowl home.  Put it on table.  Pray the prayer.  Create a family plan to give to Operation Rice Bowl this year.  Then, bring the Bowl back to church anytime from Palm Sunday through Easter and place in the Rice Bowl collection box.  One family CAN make a difference in the life of another family.
